Filmmaker Charlotte Verminck (25), born and raised in Knokke-Heist, is taking an important step in her career. Her psychological short film Mind of Thoughts was officially selected for the 25th Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF) and had its Hollywood premiere. Charlotte directed, wrote, produced, and edited the film entirely independently.
Another special link with her home region is that part of the film was shot at the Grand Hotel Casselbergh in Bruges.
“It was incredible to be able to screen our film in Hollywood,” Charlotte says proudly. “We were standing there with a project we made with so much love and dedication, and suddenly we were among filmmakers from all over the world. It’s still hard to grasp, especially in such an iconic venue where so many of my favorite filmmakers have premiered their work over the years.”
The film, according to Charlotte, was very warmly received and received particularly beautiful reactions from the audience - an experience that left a deep impression on both Charlotte and her team. As the cherry on top, a fragment of Mind of Thoughts was also shown during the exclusive gala at the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom, the same hall where the Golden Globe Awards and the Oscar Luncheon are held each year.
“That moment, seeing our footage appear on that screen, was an enormous honor. For a moment, we felt part of something big,” says Charlotte.
Inspiring Young Creatives
In a few days, the filmmaker from Knokke-Heist will travel again to Los Angeles, where the film will be shown once more - this time at the renowned Regal LA Live cinema, as part of the Beyond Hollywood International Film Festival.
In May, the film continues its journey to the East Coast of the United States, with an official selection in New York, followed by a screening in Reims (France) during the Red Movie Awards.
Charlotte hopes her journey will inspire other young creatives from the region to follow their own voice.
“I grew up in Knokke-Heist, and it remains incredible that from here, with perseverance and vision, you can create something that reaches the other side of the world.”
