A special moment for Charlotte Verminck (25) from Knokke-Heist. Her short film Mind of Thoughts had its international premiere at the 25th Beverly Hills Film Festival in Hollywood. The screening took place at the iconic TCL Chinese 6 Theatres. “A place steeped in film history,” Charlotte proudly says.
Filmmaker Charlotte Verminck (25), born and raised in Knokke-Heist, is taking a major step in her career. Her psychological short film Mind of Thoughts was officially selected for the Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF) and celebrated its Hollywood premiere. Charlotte directed, wrote, produced, and edited the film completely independently.
Another special link with her region is that part of the film was shot in the Grand Hotel Casselbergh in Bruges.
“It was unbelievable to be able to screen our film in Hollywood,” says Charlotte proudly. “We stood there with a project we made with so much love and dedication, and suddenly we were among filmmakers from all over the world. It’s still hard to comprehend, especially in such an iconic venue where so many of my favorite filmmakers have premiered their work.”
According to Charlotte, the film was warmly received and received particularly positive reactions from the audience—an experience that left a deep impression on both her and her team. As the cherry on top, a fragment of Mind of Thoughts was also screened during the exclusive gala at the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom, the same venue that annually hosts the Golden Globe Awards and the Oscar Luncheon.
“That moment, when our footage appeared on the screen there, was a tremendous honor. For a moment, we felt part of something big,” says Charlotte.
Inspiring Young Creatives
In just a few days, the Knokke-Heist native will head back to Los Angeles, where the film will once again be screened - this time at the renowned Regal LA Live cinema, as part of the Beyond Hollywood International Film Festival.
In May, the film will continue to the East Coast of the United States, for an official selection in New York, followed by a screening in Reims (France) during the Red Movie Awards.
Charlotte hopes that her journey inspires other young creatives from the region to follow their own voice:
“I grew up in Knokke-Heist, and it remains unbelievable that from here, with determination and vision, you can create something that reaches the other side of the world.” (MM)
